Magnumfying the Mind

I’ve spent several days pondering which photo would be the last I’d share before the end of 2024, and it hasn’t been an easy decision. I have to admit, it’s been a fantastic year, at least from a photographic standpoint. My little Leica has accompanied me to unexpected places that I knew nothing about and that have left me literally speechless. It’s been the perfect excuse to live more intensely, and I couldn’t be more grateful.

Although this year has been filled with extraordinary moments, each worthy in its own right of marking the end of this cycle, there was one event in particular that, while not the most spectacular or intense, was perhaps the most significant. I’m referring to the event organized by Magnum in Oviedo, supervised by Cristina de Middel, the current president of the agency. Beyond the exhibition, the images, the presentation, and the thrill of attending a show organized by the world’s most prestigious photography agency, simply being there opened my eyes to a universe I barely knew.

Photography is an incredibly complex and profound world with a rich history, populated by immensely talented individuals who devoted their lives entirely to this way of seeing and understanding the world. There is a vast cultural legacy behind them, and Magnum is one of its finest representatives. Thanks to this exhibition, I’ve begun to take an interest in photography beyond my own experience. Although I’ve only scratched the surface, it has helped me break down mental barriers and broaden my vision. Thank you, Magnum, for opening my eyes.
