I’m a big fan of road trips and generally enjoy them a lot, especially the spontaneous ones that lead me to unknown places. But I must admit, they don’t always fill me with the same enthusiasm. It really depends on my mood and energy level that day. That’s exactly what happened on the day I took this photo.
One Saturday afternoon, I left home without much motivation and no particular destination in mind. Little by little, just going with the flow, I ended up heading toward A Coruña. After passing through the city and continuing along secondary roads that hug the coastline, I drove for kilometers without finding a single reason to stop the car and pull out my camera. One landscape after another passed by without making an impression, no peculiar buildings, no charming corners, no interesting structures. Everything I saw felt flat and uninspiring. That feeling stuck with me until I reached Malpica, and in that mood, the town failed to spark any enthusiasm. Unsure of what to do next or where to go, I decided to rest for a bit at the pier. That’s when I noticed a sign pointing toward the Punta Nariga lighthouse. In that moment, I knew, that would be my next stop.
With renewed energy, I set off for the lighthouse. And when I arrived, despite the rough weather, I was thrilled. The wind was so strong it was almost impossible to open the car door, and taking photos was going to be tough. Before heading up to the lighthouse, I wandered around the surrounding area. While climbing down a path that led to the rocks in the photo, I slipped and ended up with a very unflattering brown stain all over my pants. Fortunately, I always keep a small towel in the car, perfect for cleaning off any kind of mess, and I must admit, it has saved me from quite a few “brown moments” (literally!). Just as I got back to the car to clean up, I was approached by a couple of Germans, but that’s a story for another photograph.
